BIOGRAPHY
In January of 2006, faced with boredom and a bout of relationship-induce depression, Corey Gingerich recorded his first album under the name: "A Vague Sound," a name lifted from a line of Peter Hare's work "Skylight." After touring on his first album, positive reviews and additional albums seemed to crop-up both instantly and continously. In April of 2007, after Corey toured solo for the release "Jianglai," Ashely Turbo joined the band as Corey's violin-toteing better half. After two national tours, Corey has finally settled down to record the follow-up to "Jianglai", with a little extra help from a new live back-up band to take the place of Corey's i-tunes robot. Expect to see "Delicate Hummingbird" drop on Slanty Shanty Records in the summer of '08.

RELEASES
'Jianglai'
MP3
SSR-007 CD | 12 tracks | 32 mins
Jianglai (meaning “in the future” in Chinese)is the second full-length album from Corey Gingerich’s A Vague Sound. Before the Ashley years, and after the initial experimentation phase, Jianglai is a true testament to what one deeply troubled man can create musically while left unsupervised with his computer and a studio he doesn’t have to pay for. Complete with the single “A Question of Faith” and the underground dance hit “Say it Again,” Jianglai is a must-have for any dance-pop-noise fan that may be looking music that is not so easily defined, or even tolerated in some cases.

'Ex-Vague Model Sound'
SSR-005 Split EP | 6 tracks | 21 mins
Due purely to a random chance meeting in a coffee shop in downtown Iowa City, a relationship was born between Corey Gingerich and IDM wizard Brenden Hanks of Ex-Action Model. After a few weeks of collaboration, the split CD Ex-Vague Model Sound was cut and on the sales stands in the greater Iowa City metro area.
The AVS side is composed of songs meant for a split with another Iowa City band: The Glowing Glass, that never came to fruition. The EAM side was composed of what would become Hank’s last contributions to the electronic music world.
A wonderful collection of instrumental dance, IDM, and all around creepy/ass-shakeable songs, Ex-Vague Action Model is not to be missed for any electronic music fan!

'Come Hear Them Sing to the Sky'
SSR-003 EP | 8 tracks | 23 mins
Come Hear Them Sing to the Sky is the second release (first EP) put out by A Vague Sound. Come Hear is a mix of b-sides from the albums Everything you Have Ever Hoped For and the debunked Glowing Glass split album. The songs of Come Hear tend to flow more cohesively than the album’s predecessor, but still embraces the no-boundaries experimental approach taken with the rest of AVS’s work.
If you are a fan of electronic music, but hate IDM, experimentation, or other self-indulgent wackiness, Come Hear Them Sing to the Sky would absolutely be a great choice for your listening pleasure.

'Everything You Had Ever Hoped For'
SSR-001 CD | 17 tracks | 50 mins
The album that launched the label, Everything you Have Ever Hoped For is the first release from Slanty Shanty Record’s founder Corey Gingerich and his alter ego: A Vague Sound. An experiment in composition born out of loneliness, heartbreak, and boredom, the album Everything is an embodiment of the Slanty Shanty Records ethos: if it sounds right to you, than it probably is.
Everything you Have Ever Hoped For is a 49+ minute rollercoaster taking the listener through many different genres including hardcore, instrumental, funk, experimental, and even a crunk anthem for those rage boys out there. We wouldn’t go as far as to say it is a masterpiece, but like when you see esoteric art for the first time, the listenter can’t help but wonder: “what the fuck was that!?!?”
